Sant Mateu

Sant Mateu a rural village, unspoilt yet providing all the amenities if you choose not to leave the village. Set between mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. Situated 20 minutes inland the apartments are named after the surrounding Olive Groves. The old town seamlessly integrates with the new builds of our time, projecting charm, modernisation and prosperity without losing any of its character. Surrounded with mountain views at a full 360 degrees, the fresh air will guarantee you the best nights sleep.

Amenities

Restaurants and bars are in abundance for a village so small. You could dine in a different restaurant every night of your stay as each has its own speciality. El Portal has an outside BBQ and offers a children’s menu and play area. For an evening drink we recommend El Cubano, Ka Nostra or La Plaça Dolça in the plaza. For the more adventurous diner try Farga a beautiful walk up the mountain, (you may need to book).

5 minutes stroll from the properties hidden behind a white wall is an oasis. Once inside there’s a full length pool for the advanced swimmer and paddling pool for young children, both pools are surrounded by grass. If lazing by the pool taking in some sun is more you, then the (limited) reclining pool side chairs are available for free. Cold and hot snacks are also on sale. Daily tariff for the pool is €1/2.

Sant Mateu hosts a small market on Thursday mornings opposite L Hostel de Cabrit, selling, clothes, fruits, vegetables, plants and toys. A bigger market is also held on Thursday mornings in Vinaros opposite the beach in El Fortí. Take in a slow walk to the Ermita de la Virgen de los Ángeles and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views for miles around. Pause for a moment in the monumental historical church, then pop next door for refreshments or a meal in the family run Farga Restaurant. Retaining as much history as possible with the restoration Farga Restaurant is a definite treat. A meal including wine and coffee from €25.
